Akumal was the first destination of the coast of the Yucatan peninsula washed by the Caribbean Sea.
Founded in 1958 by Pablo Bush Romero. Long before Cancun was in the plans of the Mexican government in response to the disappearance of Cuba as a leisure destination for Americans, Romero costs over today's state of Quintana Roo and chose Akumal Bay as their future place of residence. |

Aktun Chen Natural Park:
In the beautiful tropical forest, 107 km from Cancun, between Akumal and Xel-Ha is Aktun-Chen, covering 400 hectares of forest and includes 600 mts. cave adapted for visitors. This park has a magnificent grotto of 5 million years and abundant wildlife.
Aktun Chen is the principal system of caves in Quintana Roo that are open to the public, his name means "cave with an underground river inside" and has three cenotes cave inside it. The large main cave has a magnificent dome. Discreet lighting and comfortable ways to make visiting the caves very nice and safe, with no alterations to its natural state. The caves are thousands of stalactites and stalagmites and rock formations sculpted with a cenote, 12 m deep crystal blue water.
Aktun chen was once under the sea so it can be observed shells and fish fossils embedded in limestone rocks along the roads. Surrounding the caves are natural paths through the park's 988 acres are common where the tracks of spiders, iguanas, monkeys and wild turkeys.
The inlet Yalkú:
